Jump Rope for Heart
On Wednesday we had heaps of fun using the skipping ropes to pump up our heart rates and raise money for the Heart Foundation.
It was incredibly satisfying to see the children acting as peer leaders and positive role models for the younger children in their groups. I noted many times, Room 5 children helping out the junior children with their skipping, taking them to the right place, helping them have fun and enjoy the experience.
I think these are nice photos too, thanks Digi SLR!
Well done, Ka Pai tamariki Ruma Rima.

The Year 6's had their fun day up at Rainbow on Tuesday. I was again, terrible at taking photos-sorry-anyway here are the few I took and one small selfie...Suffice to say we had a fantastic day with perfect conditions.

Just showing off really.
Yussssssss!
I had my 30th birthday on Friday and was totally and utterly spoiled by my class and families.
The class was filled with balloons and streamers and a fun day was had by all.
To top it off-
Tessa baked everyone a little cupcake.
Neisha baked a cake and Moh's Mum and Dad brought in a beautiful cake on Monday (still warm)
that was happily shared by all.
Thanks Room 5, you are generous and very kind.

Nelson Intermediate Visit
Quick post to update you on our Year 6 visit to NIS.
The kids enjoyed seeing the band and hearing from Mr Gully the Principal. They were 'herded' around the school grounds and saw many classes in action. Highlights from the trip included the new Wiseman Performing Arts Centre, the areas about to be converted to 'MLE' environs and catching up with former Hampden Street pupils.
The Year 6's returned excited and keen to move on to their new school.

Treeplanting @Piper's Reserve
We had a fun morning up at Piper's Reserve planting native trees like Mahoe, Wineberry, Totara, Braodleaf, Kohuhu and the occassional Podocarp.
It was a big walk up to Princes Drive and along the ridge. We had great views and warm sun on our backs. The class coped really well with the walk there and back and were keen to plant their trees with due care so they would last a lifetime not just a week.
The soil was full of creepy crawlies like worms and spiders which they enjoyed seeing. We had a great time and thanks to parents who came along to help out. What a great way to spend a morning!

Red Cross First Aid Training
Jen from the Red Cross came in today to train the class up on First Aid skills such as DRSABC, the recovery position, how to deal with choking and burns and scalds, treating nosebleeds, broken bones and shock. Also, how to deal with accidental poisonings. The kids had lots of fun and were given many chances to put their learning into 'action'.
Here, Vernon has volunteered to be the 'victim' and is being helped to stop 'choking'.
The photos below show the children being put into the recovery position.
