Kid President: Room 5's final project of the year.
Everyone had an excellent time impersonating Kid president. The aim of this project was to inspire others with positive, uplifting tones and kind words to make this world a better place.
This is Ella, Alice, Maccrae, Brooklynn and Josh's.
More videos soon to come.

Blog of the Week
I am impressed by how hard Tom has worked recently to update his blog and to keep it current. It is great to see the class motivated to be 'blogger of the week' which I think has helped keep them interesting for the kids-with many of the blogging about their learning happening from home!
Well done Tom.

Graham Percy-Imaginative Histories Visit.
The Senior Syndicate has been visiting Nelson Museum for an insight into the life and times of NZ illustrator Graham Percy.
We were all impressed by the variety of his artworks and a number of children enjoyed the playful nature of the artworks. His sense of humour is well evident in his artworks.
We were also lucky enough to watch part of his movie 'hugo the hippo' which you can watch below.

Fictional recreations
The students have been hard at work changing a famous story into something else. Here is a short part of Josh's film where the characters of 'Fantastic Mr Fox' are reversed-the Farmers steal food from Mr Fox!
Others have chosen to film Goldilocks, scenes from The Hobbit, some x-mas fables and a few fantastic stop-go animations using lego and chalk.
I will upload these as they come to hand. Watch this space!

I really like Mat's blog-he has been posting from home and he has tried really hard to write using interesting vocabulary. It is cool how he shares his blog with people around the world. Well done Mats!

What tool will you use to create a 3:D model?
We have been looking into a garden design project. We are looking to improve our middle school garden area that looks pretty ratty. How can we as students improve our school community?
The children have designed a new garden space to improve the school-to make it a cool place to hang out at play time and also to be used as an 'outdoor classroom' space for classes to visit on sunny days.
But how will the children construct a 3:D model? Watch the video to find out.

Student Blog of the week
Inspired by visiting some other wonderful blogs in NZ-I am going to post one student blog per week that is deserving of extra visits.
Our first blog is Neisha's. I know she does a lot of her blogging from home and is always keen to keep it up to date-and it looks great too. Well done Neisha.

Cycle Safety Day-Wheels a go-go!
We were lucky enough in this busy term we're having to have the local Police Constable come in and teach the children about the ins and outs of cycle safety. We looked at the road rules-who goes first, the three golden rules, giving way and using courtesy and manners. There was an obstacle course and a mini four way intersection that the children had to negotiate. It was an action packed and informative day for the children. The Constable commented that they listened really well and made big gains throughout the day. Well done Room 5!
How can improve a community space? A fun video from Sweden
Our major theme this Term is all about Community-local and global. The students will be identifying key local and global issues important to them and working towards finding solutions and taking action.
Here is a short video from Sweden that shows a fun way to get more people to choose the stairs and get exercise.

HSS Roman Army Conquers All!
The Parade was extremely fun and our school won 'best school'. Every minute the whistle would blow and we would all huddle up. Ten seconds later the whistle would blow again and we'd duck down and do the turtle. The teachers would stay up though a pretend to get shot! The best thing about the Parade was watching the teachers howling in pain as they pretended to die.

Sensational Conservation Poster Art
This is Polly's Tiger drawn and painted at the end of Term 3
The task was to create a full sized animal that is currently endangered in the wild. This artwork should have linked up with the website/research project as well.
The children used pencils and watercolours and needed to have a strong message to attract attention.
If you look in the 'ART' page (above) you will find the link to the other 28 artworks. They are all truly magic and deserve your attention.
Have a look.

Jump Rope for Heart
On Wednesday we had heaps of fun using the skipping ropes to pump up our heart rates and raise money for the Heart Foundation.
It was incredibly satisfying to see the children acting as peer leaders and positive role models for the younger children in their groups. I noted many times, Room 5 children helping out the junior children with their skipping, taking them to the right place, helping them have fun and enjoy the experience.
I think these are nice photos too, thanks Digi SLR!
Well done, Ka Pai tamariki Ruma Rima.
